amt xb-70 build

Anybody have any tips for building and finishing the AMT XB-70? Thanks!

[#welcome] to the forum. This is your first post here, but I certainly hope the XB-70 is not your first model. That thing is quite difficult to put together. It has several very long seams that are difficult to get lined up and joined together, even a slight warp in a part makes for huge difficulties in assembly. The total weight of the model is too much for the landing gear. They tend to bend or buckle under the weight. However, once finished, it makes a VERY impressive model.

Due to other committments, I have put off building this kit until I am ready. Keep us posted on the build![:)]

[#welcome] to the forums, Sgtmac! I myself have been trying to get ahold of an AMT XB-70 for a while now.[8] I’m trying to find one on ebay that will be less than $75![:0] The kit sounds like a bear but I think it will be worth it in the end![:p] I’m trying to make a complete 1/72 U.S. bomber collection. Some of the early ones never made it to plastic model form. Best of luck on your kit, though![:D] - Calvin

Good luck on your kit! How lucky you are to have one. I’ve been trying to get my hands on one for a long time. Prices lately have been astronomical on ebay. A “special editon” just recently went for $132.50, and that was for an open kit.

I built that kit about five years ago and it aint easy. Lots of trouble with the seams because of its size. I discovered same thing with the landing gears.Recomend building it with gears up. Which I think gives it a sleeker look.I hung it from the cieling with three lenths of 10 lb fishin line. It is a conversation piece.

Wow. I found a special edition at my LHS for only $50! I haven’t tryed to build it yet, but it’s next on my line up.
