AMT Falcon Cut-Away #8789 1996 release

Recent build. I really liked this one. As old as the kit was it went together quite well and had lots of room for fiber and LEDs. Also, my first use of the “hairspray” method for creating the chipped pannel look.

Robert,

Your Falcon turned out fantastic! The chipping and weathering look great! Did you light this yourself, or did you use a lighting kit? Again, fantastic job! Ha, now you have me looking for one!

Thanks for the compliment! Youtube has a bunch of tutorials on the hairspray method. It can be a little tricky but it worked fine for me. On lighting, no kit, I add resistors and wire the LEDs and do all the fiber optics. I also added a bunch of flashing LEDs on the consoles as well. I saw one lighting kit for this model at about $50 and it only for the rotating engine light on the bottom. I did have to assemble a PCB to accomplish the same and add a bunch of lights. Total cost was less than $10 in parts.

Looks outstanding!! Great job across the boards…the weathering and lights really bring it together!

Very cool, the chipping worked out very well. And the LEDs look awesome!

Robert,

Thanks for the response. I did see a kit on eBay to light the MPC Falcon, but like you said, it’s $50. I don’t know why, but lighting these kits intimidates me. But, I have a lighting kit for the Fine Molds X-Wing that I plan to build early next year. I’m hoping that experience will shake my intimidation. Thanks again!

Excellent work!
