I think I have a thing going on for this big white beatiful plane.
I wonder what can you tell me about this kit.
How is the fit of the parts and do you know where can I get this kit?
How much detail has been invested by AMT/Ertl?
Any aftermarket?
How much does it worth today?
Is it currently out-of-production?
When was this kit first released?
thanks! [8D]
Here’s what I know about the kit. It’s long out of production and first saw the light of day in 1996. I don’t think Ertl spent a fortune on this kit as it has a low parts count(77 or so) and raised panel lines. Fit was pretty good until you started joining sub-assemblies together, especially the fuselage neck to the spine and the spine to the wings. I think there were some fit issues with the intakes as well. Having said all this, I want one! I think you’re only likely to find one on ebay. Hope this helps.[:)]
Another thing about the kit is when it is finished. It is very heavy due to size and the added metal and plastic needed to keep it together, the kit gear is too weak.
I have one amost finished except for wing outer sections and exhaust nozzles, and it’s been leaning against my wall for ages. I gave a take-it-or-leave-it workshop on how to join those subassembles in this forum a couple of months ago (my copy fit pretty well, anyway, but I know some didn’t so I used the same method I used on the similarly assembled Testors 1/48 Blackbird family). These beautiful monsters can be found more commonly than you might think, even though, as said above, they are out of productions. Be nice if someone would buy the molds. I couldn’t find any AM parts for it, and never heard of any. The gear could use some detailing, and the cockpit, which is hard to see, offers little in the way of detail. The backs of the seats can be seen clearly through the side windows, so detail is in order there. It is am imressive looking kit built up. I made mine to hang, because it was a commission for a store, but it’s about a year overdue. Guess I better get to work on it – like, yesterday.

i also built the ertl kit which i paid around $35.00 for I saw one on ebay about a week ago for $42.00 not bad for a huge kit. Its the biggest thing I have I hung it from the ceiling and used two 10 lb fishing line because with only one line every time the ac or furnace came on it would spin and I was afraid the weight would bring it down after awhile. I made it with the drooping wing configutaion just to be different and unique look
I have one (partially assembled)waiting to be finished for 3 years… due to its size I don´t have a place to put it.
The problems I´ve seen were the main wing joints and a part wasn´t fully formed so I´ll have to fix it later.
Never heard of AM parts unfortunatelly… I would like to add some to mine…
Just found one for you on Ebay… item number 5922748219… check it out… on Toys & Hobbies…
