Anyone else out there own this kit? Has anyone built it? Just seeking info, and wondering where the best place is to get deck plans for the original Enterprise. I have the original Star Trek Technical Manual, and that gives descriptions of some of the rooms and even gives info on colors. But to do the model right I think I’d want a full set of deck plans, so I know where everything is and can at least make a good guess on how to paint it.
thank you,
DJ
Most people who’ posted their buildups to their sites or others’ usually build it complete without the cutaway features. I have one I’m rebuilding right now; it never utilized those features and never will. Nor will the 2-3 other ones in the closet.
The only full deckplans available are either the old Franz Joseph ones or the FASA game deckplans for that RPG. Both may be hard to find these days.
You could be the first one to build decks into the Cutaway!! If so, good luck!!
Thank you Savion. I think I’ll try building with the cutaway decks, but I think I’ll be guessing a lot as to what some areas of the ship should look like. I’ve got about 30 old series episodes on tape so that will help, but I think a lot of it will be educated guesses. Oh well, as long as the finished product looks good I’ll be happy

It can be any way you wanted since the ship never really existed!
SciPubTech at http://www.scipubtech.com/startrek.htm has some nice poster-sized cutaway art that may make good reference art for your project. Thomas Sasser once published a very well thought out set of diagrams, one showing deck detail. Unfortunately, he’s not currently offering them, but maybe someone here is willing to sell you his set (there’s always eBay…).
I started this model as a non-cutaway last Spring, before the PL kit came out. It’s been sidelined.
Frankly it’s a heck of a lot more work to put together as a solid model than I feel it’s worth. The innaccuracies are numerous, and there are a lot that are simply not even worth fixing. Someday I’ll get around to finishing the thing, but it’s just not all that much fun.
Ignatz, thanks very much for the link and info! The color, cut-away painting yields a lot of detail.
Thanks,
DJ
