AMPS 2005 - My Pics

I just finished uploading my pics into a gallery… was a lot of fun at the show [:)]

I entered 3 of my models and won 2 Silvers and a Gold ! [:p]
I hesitated to enter them but really had nothing to lose (but a few bucks to a good organization) I was only in the basic category. None of my stuff has photo etch parts yet and I’m just now working on my first aluminum barrel. I have to be in the next higher class next year because I got a gold this time around.

My M4 Marines Sherman took a Silver
My Panzer II Luchs took a Silver
My Wz34 from the MAD Group Build took a Gold [:0] and one judge commented that he was surprised I actually finished the kit (becuase the fit on the kit is known to be so awful)

The model I thought was going to be my best scored the lowest of the 3. I never would have thought my little armor car would get more attention than the luchs with all the figures. I guess its a good thing I brought the kits to enter after all [:)] It is nice getting the comment cards from the judges and knowing what to do for next time.

I tried to buy up on raffle tickets… I won a 1/72 LVTP7 by DML and the main hull is diecast… could be a cool little diddy. So I guess I broke even with the raffle tickets for the amount I bought equals the kit price [:)]

So check out the pics of the show that I posted. There was some freaking unbelievable stuff there!
Did you see the pics I posted of the 1/6 Tiger? WOW! How about Commisar Herne’s 1/16 Russian Armor!!! The master class dioramas were amazing!

Congatulations on your two silvers and the gold. Was just browsing your pictures and was trying to see which ones are your’s. Can you give me directions so I can find them?
Joe

Nice pics and congrads on the wins!

Three for three, pretty good performance. Thanks for sharing all the great pictures with us, must have been a fun time. Was that Jeff’s T-34 with the bedsprings? Very well done.

Yes he had his T-34 but it was not part of the competition. I gotta find out why because that thing is beautiful. I couldnt imagine being part of a magazine would disqualify you from something you built yourself, oh well [xx(]

Thanks Joe. Just hit the link in my signature and you can see the models that I entered: M4 Sherman, Wz34, PzII Luchs. I entered them with their bases but the bases were not judged (I dont think they were).

Congrats and thanks for the great pics!

Steve

Actually, the reason it wasn’t in the competition was because it got pretty mangled during the flight. I managed to put everything back together but there were still some shiny spots from the repairs, and the aluminum barrel got scraped up, so it wasn’t competition ready.

The company doesn’t have any rules against staffers competing, but they’d prefer we didn’t judge at events, which is perfectly understandable, given the sometimes hostile nature of judging someone else’s work at shows. I also ahd to make a fiscal decision…spend $20 to register one model, or spend $20 on a kit?? I bought a T-34/85 with my entry fee…

Jeff

I just want to say to you that those pics are just amazing. Your work is incredible!!! Great job. [:O][^][^][^][tup][tup][tup]

Thats a pretty impressive showing Steve! 2silvers, and a gold. All of your entries were beautifully done, and very worthy of their awards. Congratulations, and also thank you posting the pictures of the AMPS competition. It looks like you were up against some pretty fine work. Semper Fi, mike

Great job on the awards. Wish I could have had more time to look around, but my saturday was shot due to some work stuff. I didn’t get there until 3:30 and got to pick up a Panzer III Ausf J, a Panzer IV Ausf G, and a German 39(H) Tank w/ 105mm LeFH18(sf). My fiancee says that I am spoiled [:D]. Wish I could have met everyone, but work comes before anything. Bryan

You were there and didn’t come over and introduce yourself?!? For shame!!!

Jeff

[V][V][V][V][V] I am sorry Jeff. Don’t beat me to hard. Bryan

Well, you can make it up to me by gaining access to the restoration shop and taking photos of the SU-85

Jeff

Sorry Jeff, i was there also on both days and didn’t get over to intro myself either. SO many people. Met so many interesting ones, can’t wait for next year. Bill

LOL I waited until he wasnt busy to say hello and that took a while. He was busy the whole show just trying to get photos I’m surprised he found time to shop the goods [:)]

Thanks to all for the good comments. I was only in the basic level but I saw what was required for the next levels, wow, good builds.

The master class dioramas are incredible, the 1/6 tiger is just a lead weight with no motors I was disappointed to hear that [:(]

I did not get pics of the 1/35 Leopold that was on display but I wish I did. The person that built it did the most incredible job painting the shiny sliding recoil area and the streaks of grease… it honestly looks like the inside of my 1911 when I rack the slide, the metal and grease was top notch painting… wonder if Jeff got it on camera… hope so

There was another diorama I didnt capture and it was a shadow box of a jeep including real working lights, puddle splashing people on side of road, was just gorgeous work! … again… hopefully Jeff Herne got it for us to see in the mags [:D]
