I’m working on a Mk Ic Hybrid Firefly. It has Type 48 rubber chevron track blocks but my question is how do you paint the guide horns and teeth? They were cast steel I assume and would have been finished somehow. Were they OD like every thing else or were they just primed or what? Inquiring minds want to know.
The guide teeth and end connectors are bare metal. If they get painted, the paint quickly wears off when running through the dirt and over the drive sprocket, etc. If a track is in use, it will show little rust and be mostly polished steel. If the track sits for a while (overnight) it will get a thin coating of surface rust. After a few minutes of use, the rust is rubbed off and the metal is polished again.
