Here’s 79-782 in the original flag scheme from 1983…

Looks like a giant kite from the bottom! Not much stealth to THAT paint job, is there? [8D]
That is definatly not a paint job I’d want to tackle. I’d really screw it up bad if I tried that. My first notion would be to try reproducing it with MicroScale decal sheets cut to scale.
Just my [2c].

Go to the Meteor web site (www.meteorprod.com) and there you’ll find that they put out a markings set for this machine in 1/48 scale. The stars are in decals, as I recall, and the stripes are done with Black Magic masks.
For references on this and every other scheme worn by the F-117, including the Have Blue, the pastel splinter and the F-117 gray scheme, there is a nice, reasonably priced book just out from Specialty Press called F-117 Nighthawk Stealth Fighter Photo Scrapbook (www.specialtypress.com). It has many photos of this bird both times it was painted with the flag motif, including closeup shots with good details. It’s 110 pages of color photos for $16.95. Also included are three-view drawings of this plane, plus the “Red Scorpion” Nighthawk, and the one I plan to do one day, using the TwoBobs 1/48 decal sheet, featuring the giant Skunk Works logo on the belly, painted to commemorate Ben Rich’s retirement.
