Like I said i’ve manage to balance it out by stuffing the engine part with pennies, it works fabulous. and i’ve remove the stick.
It looks like you had some major seepage problems with your masking.
When you apply masking tape, particularly on a rivet-studded surface like your particular kit, you must burnish down the edges of the tape to prevent paint seeping under it.
Just laying down the tape and pressing with your fingertips won’t cut it. You can get specialised burnishing tools, but I find the side of the tip of a rounded “pointy” toothpick works quite well. (At a pinch, you can use your fingernail to do this)
It’s harder to tell with the opaque coloured masking tapes eg. the blue (or green in your case), but with the lighter coloured tapes (eg. the “regular” buff coloured masking tape or Tamiya’s masking tape), you can see the tape appear to darken slightly when the air has been excluded from under it (ie. the gap between the tape and the surface) when it’s burnished down nice and tight.
Some people like to spray a light coat of the base colour over the area to be painted to seal the edge of the mask. It’s up to you whether you do this or not, it’s just a preference thing.
When spraying, don’t spray into the edge of the tape. Spray from behind the edge on the tape side. Do a very light pass or two over the edge of the tape and let it sit for a few minutes before doing any more.
Though it may seem like your airbrush only puts out a little paint, it can go a lot further than you think - beware of overspray and mask any and all areas where you don’t want your colour to go. There’s a bit of red overspray on the side of the pod near the left wing root.
Hope this helps… [:)]
Dag! this model isn’t easy as it looks, had to reapplied the aluminium base coat and some glue mark show on the paint,. «![]()
The only major mistake on this build is use three types of paint, tamiya’s lacqender (alumiume gloss), Testo’s enemal paint and tamiya’s acrylic. Fortunatly this plane is going to be very weathered, in FSM April issue Luciano showed how to weather a thunderbolt, i’m using his thechnic. but i syill have to ally the decals.
Photos will come next post.
