Amazing finds in Russia

Pretty cool stuff. Some of you seem very surprised to see it all found now, and not sooner. All I can say is, Russia (and a lot of Europe in that region) has some very wild terrain, very inhospitable and unreachable. I wouldn’t be surprised if 100 times this amount of stuff is still left lying around.

Hey guys,

Armormaster, regarding your quote:

“And the photographer is letting it rot and rust in the cold snow!!!”

Please remember guys that most people in Russia are very very poor. Finding a tank or plane in their field is pretty much nothing… they just plow around it… too heavy to move in most cases with only horses and cattle available to most farmers or an odd old tractor or two.

I can understand the frustrations but we are quite fortunate in North America in most cases relative to others like in Russia… people are generally very poor and work is very hard to come by [V]

The various museums and restoring houses know about these finds… but the cost of extracating these things is very high especially from the truly remote regions of the world, and not worth the cost.

Great links Captain. About the last link, i have been there. They had pictures and an article in the magazine Armourer.

a pak 36 sitting in a forest! i could have used that for my towed gun group build!!!

The “Lady Be good” (I think that was it?[%-)]) had some equipment still working-it was a b-24 from WWII. As some may know, It was flying in Africa and it crashed because of dust in the engine or something and a research and recovery crew went out to recover the wreck of the b-24 and their radio died. So they took some radio parts from the b-24’s radio and it worked! Just a story of war relics still working after long periods of time…

Correct me if I’m wrong, but many bits and pieces from the Lady Be Good were salvaged for other operational Liberators. Also, did anybody see the NOVA about the B-29 being salvaged? It’s a great example of what happens if you get in too big of a rush, and don’t look to the little details (wasn’t it a loose tool box?)!

I don’t remeber about the lady be good, but I don’t think it was salvaged. I think that it was left there for like 50 years or something and then the researchers found it. Can we get a confermaion on that anyone?..
