AM P-51B

This is my AM P-51B I am doing for Nicks GB here.

Waiting for my sandy to set up I got a wild hair up my rear and took the paint off it I had done already… cleaned it up and buffed out the plastic and futured it.

What I decided to do was Inspired by GrandpaJohn and his personal flying circus plane he posted here. This P-51 will carry marking inspired by MTO Mustangs, but completely out of my head. Will Carry the yellow wing bands of the theatre but I am making this the Mustang I would have flown back then. And it will have a gal’s name (all Mustangs need to be named after gals!!) my wife.

some short progress shot off my bench…

I found reference to what panel lines they tended to puttied in for more speed and puttied mine.

thanks for looking all,

Jeff

Great looking progress there Jeff!! I’ve got the AM P-51C in my stash and it’s a great looking kit, now all I need is some time to build it.

Cheers

Cool idea Jeff.

Steve

Looking good Jeff. Keep us posted.

Regards, Rick

Jeff:

Love the realistic idea of puttying the panel lines. Great idea. Keep posting as you move forward.

Thanks all,

I am going between msking my sandies camo in and doing the panel on this one.

Steve,
Whats the missile in your sig there?

Jeff

need to touch up my AGP but over all I am happy with the nose so far. Everything appears to have a good edge to it, getting better at masking I think.

Jeff

Oi I have had enough masking for a while

All the major panels are done except the rear fuselage which will be chrome and I’ll do that right before decaling to kep my fingerprints off. Dunno whats up with the red on her, doesnt look anything like that in person.

Thanks for looking

Jeff

Great idea and work Jeff. I think we all should do our own dream “what would I have flown?” or “what nose art would I have had?” bird. Fun stuff. Maybe I’ll try that… Keep us posted. Leon

Nice looking Mustang Jeff. What are you using to fill the panel lines. I’m using squadron green putty on mine and it just doesn’t seem to want to stay in those grooves. Joe

Heya Joe,

I used Mr. Dissolved Putty followed by some Mr. Surfacer 500 and 1000. Did the job for me.

Well I have the NMF I think… can’t see anymore to do… good thing.

Put her on her legs which I plummed, didnt get into the wells since she’s all buttoned up

Progress…

thanks for looking,

Jeff
