As I am sure you can tell, I am relatively new here. Just wanted to post some pics of this Stang I am working on. I am about ready to paint it but I was wondering if there were any decal sets out there for the 51A. I really dont want to do the ones in the box but I cant seem to find any aftermarket decals for this one. I am really enjoying this kit after building the Revell P-40B, what a nightmare!! Well here are the pics, tell me what you think…
The flash on the camera really makes the pit look cleaner and alot brighter than it really is.
Looks good so far. I have this kit in my stash to build. I have built the AM p 51B and it was a fine kit. I have ordered from just plane hobbies before and they are nice people and they have great prices. However, this is a side business for them so you might not get super fast shipping and answers to emails might be slow. I would not let that stop me from ordering from them though. Keep up the pics.
Looks pretty good! I love the P-51A. There’s only 1 set of Aftermarket (A/M) decals. Go to squadron.com and search for P-51A. I got mine for $2.50 or something ridiculous like that. Also a suggestion. The part that covers the Instrument panel should be black instead of zinc chromate. Just a heads up!!!
Thanks for the heads up on the dash above the IP and all the comments!! I will check out those decals right now. Here is a pic of that troublesome radiator exhaust door. Best I can tell with the advice from some others is this is how it is suppose to look!?!?
This kit has went together great, the fit has been fantastic! The only problem i have had was a little bit of warping on the wings, which was very easy to correct with a bit of tape as the glue was drying! I also have AM’s F-6B which I want to do in full invasion stripes.
I’m biased but I’d suggest SuperScales P-51A sheet (48-1089) for the 1st Air Commandos that flew in Burma/India during WW2. The sheet willl do 3 aircraft including the Group Commander’s (Col Cochrane who was later immortalized in a fameous comic strip) and Mrs Virgina.
Woohoo, just got my order from Great Models and its time to start painting this thing!! Had to wait on a replacement hose for my a/b and some neutral gray but its here now and time to get this show on the road. More pics to come…
Ok, not much but a small update. Got the bottom of this bird painted gray with MM Acrylics. Got to use my Aztek 470 for the first time and all I can say is WOW, what a thin layer of paint!! There is so much detail preserved due to it being so thin, I dont know if I will ever pick up a spray can again!!! Anyways here or some boring picks of the neutral gray, when it dries a bit I will paint the OD Green on using Tamiya Acrylics.
One more update for the night. Got the OD on top and I am telling you what I LOVE THIS A/B!!! This is by far the best paint I have laid in a while and has got me very excited about my tri-color F4F-4 coming up!! Here are the pics…
I’m starting to get excited about how this one is going to turn out, only one thing left that worries me and that is panel lines and weathering[yuck]
