Also on the X-35 ?

has anyone tried to rotate the engine into the downward position for hovering, vtol etc. is how do you do it, I might have an idea but I’m not that confident that it will work by the way the kit 1/48 revell.
Please help
scott.

I think your refering to the “fan” behind the cockpit. That fan doesnt change direction, its permanently fixed as is the Engine. The fan is activated by computor when the plane needs to land and this gives it the down -thrust needed to hover. Hope this helps scotty.

Jeff,

I think he’s talking about the lobsterback-like articulation that the exhaust nozzle.

That will be the one .

If you want a cheap reference just buy the Revell AG 1/72 kit, the only option you have on it is to leave the exhaust in the hover position (at least officially, although I think it wouldn’t be that hard to close it up. Scratch building another kit in the hover position probably wouldn’t be that difficult though, assuming you ar any good at scratchbuilding, which I aint.

Sorry. I stand corrected.

The 1/48 kit doesn’t have the tail pipe in the VTOL position? The 1/72 does but it’s not quite right. Basically it’s three separate segments interfacing at a bit more than a 45 degree angle (so it can point a little forward at maximum bend). The middle segment is quite short - almost a wedge.

Thats it I’ve done It, I’ve cut the pipe in half at 45 degrees so it looks like it supposed to in the hover position. I’ll post a picture as soon as I’ve finished.

Buy the Panda kit (F-35B USMC version). It, UNFORTUNATELY, has the exhaust nozzle in the down position only. It’s also 1/48th. Whether it would work with the Revell kit…well, give it a try and see. Good Luck!
