Allison V24

Kinda too bad Squeakies not around, he’da liked this thing.

I came across this mill at Reno- the Allison V3420. Built for a variety of projects, including the XP-58 Chain Lightning.

2100 hp continuous at 25,000 feet, 2600 hp max output for 15 minutes.

Cool engine. I’m surprised Jay Leno hasn’t paid someone to build a car around it…

Pat.

it looks to me …p-39 king cobra???[^o)]

There is an example of this engine at the McClellan Aerospace Museum of California. It was to power the Fisher XP-75, possibly the biggest US boondoggle in WWII. You can read some about it in Wikipedia. The engine also flew in the Douglas XB-19 and a modified B-29 called the XB-39, where it was a fallback if the R-3350 project failed.
