Alcohol for acrylic thinner/cleaner.

Pretty basic question, between 70% and 91% ISO, is one more suitable than the other or do they perform the same as reducers? I’ll be using a known brand from the drug store, not cheapo off brand. I have no clue, knowledgeable answers will be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Patrick

I don’t know, every post I read said use the 91%, but I’m not sure why.

The numbers refer to the amount of alchohol by volume, so the 91% is much more “pure”.

You may already know this, but ISO is not a universal reducer or cleaner for acrylic paints. Chemistry varies from brand to brand. I’ve only used a few of them, so I’m not your best source of info on that. This month’s FSM has an article on acrylic paints with a good reference chart that breaks down the best choices for most popular brands.

Hope this helps!

Mike

is it different isomers between brands, or do different brands have other stuff than isomers of propyl alcohol?
