Hi folks
I going to buy some ALCLAD plus primer for my NMF 1/48 P-51 D but I’m not sure about the right colors to use on it.[:0]
Could anybody over there know the right shades of aluminium required for this task?
Thanks in advance.

I have used the Polished Aluminum and worked out well, also got the Duraluminum for the darker areas and that was it, hope this helps!
Of! forgot to say, for the flying surfaces i have used white aluminum, but that was in another war weary experiment i made…

hello feli250, you are working on one of my favorite subjects friend. below are the 2 stangs that i’ve assembled. “Nooky Booky” is finished in alclad white aluminum with no other colors for panel accents. i use alclad gloss black primer as a primer and it works perfectly everytime. the NMF is a little tricky to apply though so watch out. later.

for this project, i used alclad white aluminum for the base color, dark aluminum for the darker panels, and chrome for the lighter panels. you cant really tell much about it in the pics, but in person there is a very noticeable difference. the chromed panels are very light mist coats because i didn’t want to be able to brush my hair using the panels for a mirror, i just “lightened” the panel and it gave i a different sheen as well. you can use copper and magnesium in light coats over aluminum to give it a cool contrast as well. i’ve only read about it though and haven’t scraped together the cash to purchase all those colors.

I like the Aluminum 103 and maybe some dark aluminum or Magnesium for contrast. Suggest you take a look at “The Secret Life of Alclad 2” before going too far with your primers.

I have used the Alclad on my debunked fortress. The gloss black is wonderful to paint on, their grey primer has a buncha horror stories with it.

Remember the wings on P-51 weren’t baremetal they were painted with silver lacquer tp achieve a smoth finish on the laminer flow wings.
