I am getting ready to start painting my B-58, I have primed the whole bird in gloss black & I am about ready to start coulour coat.
I have two Alclad colours which specifically require the gloss black primer coat, but another three that dont. Usually when I do say a two coulor camo job I overcoat the majority of the model in the lighter colour, then mask & paint in the darker coulour, the darker colour never allows the difference between the underlying stuff show through.
I am thinking that do do a nice job in alclad I am goint to have to mask/paint/mask/paint… more or less everything for each colour, leaving the fresh primer coat for every shade, as I assume the “thin” Alclad will probably allow the underlying finish to “show”?

I’m not sure I understand what you are asking.
If you are concerned about applying the colors that require the gloss primer over some other shade of alclad then just over coat the entire airframe portions that require the gloss with that shade of alclad first. Then mask your panels for the other colors.
Ok, after rereading your post five times I think I understand.
Don’t worry about underlying coats of alclad showing through. I’d apply the colors that need the gloss directly to the black first but any other color that you intend to use can be applied right over top of it with no ill affects. Just mask for the off color panels.
Yes - I was finding it quite difficult to explain something so simple, anyway, you have given me the answer I needed & also hoped for. I had visions of this thing turning into a maskathon, but now know it wont.
