So I have just used Alclad Aqua Gloss and I must say that it is some of the best paint I have ever used. During the whole session it sprayed perfectly, and at the end my parts were a near perfect gloss (flaws were because of dust nubs from previous paint layers). I read on the bottle that the Aqua Gloss can be used as a base for their lacquer metallizers, but I have heard many times that lacquers should not be used over acrylics. So my question is would it be possible to use a lacquer over an acrylic effectively? Would it be strong enough to use an enamel wash or tape over it? I really like Alclad products, so I would like to use their lacquer flat topcoat as a final layer to seal in the acrylics and knock down the paint to a flat sheen, but as I have mentioned, I do not know if it would be strong enough for handling.
I’ve used Alclad II over acrylics several times with no issues.
just make sure the Acrylics are really dry (24hrs-ish)
Although I don’t usually use acrylics, I have found a rattle can black that is gloss acrylic that puts down a nice shiny black. I have put alclad over it a number of times with no problem. Alclad lacquer is funny. Lacquer over enamel is often though of as a no-no, but I regularly put it over Testors gloss black enamel with no problem.
