I know some people use gloss black and light grey for the base color to “tone” Alclad top cover.
I have black and grey before, but matt with a gloss coear coat over it , I want to go go straight gloss first, but have difficunty finding gloss light grey ( in enamel)
Will gloss white by to light and have to much of a different tone difference? Has anyone ever tried using some pannels painted in gloss silver before putting on alclad, what effect will this have?

Theuns, Testor’s Model Master has two light gray enamels; Gull Gray Gloss 16440 and Aircraft Gray Gloss 16473. I don’t know if these are available to you but one might be able to order them.

Good afternoon, I agree with Gary I was going to post the Aircraft gray information, but then I finish reading his post. Also whatever you decide to us do not use the alclad gloss black for base color it will be a real mess. Paint do not seem to cure or dry fast enough.
as a side note, MM Gloss Gull Grey is a warmer tone than the gloss Aircraft Grey, which is a fairly neutral tone. I don’t know if this info will make any difference to the final results.

One note. In order for the base color to affect the finish appearance, Alclad must be applied with a very thin coat. Attempts to put down a heavy coat will result in a finish looking more like aluminum paint. You need to dial the airbrush way down and mist on a very light coat so the base color is sort of visible.
The secret to a highly polished appearance is the same. To get the polished aluminum Alclad to really look polished, keep it thin. The folks I know who were unable to get a polished aluminum look were putting it on way to thick.
