Hi guys! I just finished a F86 whit alclad II aluminium (is my first experience whit this piant) and wow!!! that thing is really something!, but I have a few questions:
if I give the model a coat of future the decals will be ok, and no carrirer will be noticed, but the metal shine will be lost. but if i don´t do this the clear carrier is going to ruin my finish…
what i´m going to do??? hepl please!!!
Ive only used Alclad a couple times, so my experiance is limited. I laid the decals on with no future and they work perfectly. Even used old Monogram decals and not a bit of silvering.
The issue behind silvering is basically because flat or matte paint has a rough surface at the microscopic level, preventing the carrier film from ‘laying down’ properly. If you have prepped your surface properly and applied the Alclad properly, you will not need Future, because you are applying the decal to a smooth surface to begin with. I never have a problem applying the decals directly to Alclad:

Just use a good set of decals and a quality setting solution and you will be fine. Future changes the Alclad II finish, I would not recommend using it.
I have coated the individual decal with future prior to applying it, but never found it necessary with Alclad as you can see in the pics, no futre was used on any of these builds (as far as decals were concerned). I do use Future EXCLUSIVELY as a primer for Alclad II, and it works great.

I’ve only done one build with Alclad II and I futured over the alclad before and after putting the decals on. I didn’t really notice a huge difference before and after the future. Before and after did indeed look a little different, but it wasn’t a huge difference to my eyes. YMMV

Well thanks guys! I think I will try to apply the decals whit no future (cuting as much of the carrier as I can) and try to see how it works, if this dosen´t work I will take a risk whit the furure…
I will post a few pics of my F-86 in the argentina´s air force acrobatic team called “cruz del sur” when I finish whit all the masking, painting and decaling
