hey guys, this the the alan kit of the zis 5 and let me tell its a doosie the zvesda kits looks much better in the box than this one was to build but in an effort to get my bench cleared so i can get the new year started fresh i hammered and beat on it till it finally gave in and im gonna call this one “the veteren” because it sure looks like its been in a few wars [(-D] i ended up having fun painting this even if the build was a pain anyway enough rambling and on with the show,
thanks for looking and feel free to shoot me down in flames for the beating i gave this poor truck [:)]
Ron my friend, you did it again! [tup]
The build looks really clean and your finish is awesome. You really feel like it has been through a lot! The headlights looks so good! Your pics are also very clean.
My hat goes to you [^]
Thats awesome! I would just like to ask (if you dont mind) how did you do your windows? they really have a great dusty look!
Ron, I’ve run out of adjectives to descibe your weathering. I think this is the best ever from you. The damp look in the bed is amazing.
With all due respects to the other fantastic modelers within the forum, you are the Weathering King. [bow] In the old days the mods might have given you a special title. [;)]
Could you start a special thread with all the builds that you finished last year? A pic or 2 each would be great! They could come in handy for weathering.
Hey Biffa,
I Love it. [^]It’s just the way I’d do it.[tup]
[%-)] But how did that truck get into the tank factory?
[D)]What I’m really wondering is… how did you say “ALL” that in one sentence/one breath?
Ha Ha…
Steve
hi ron-- i love the looks on the weathering![tup][tup]-- this poor old truck looks to me as though it has been hiding in a barn some where just waiting to be discovered[^]-- super fine job man—tread[:P]
thanks fellas, i appreciate the kind comments,
Jean-Michel, thanks for all the great feedback i have been following your Panzerjager I progress in the italeri GB and it is fantastic im really looking forward the seeing some paint on it.
J west, hi there the windows i put in very last after all the weathering was finished then i just took my still damp wash brush and smeared it on them then with a q-tip wiped the centers off then applied a wash around the edges.
Eric, steve and tread, as always you guys always there with the great feedback it really makes this hobby that much more fun being able to share with you all and eric i can do a thread with the years builds no problem also the WWW below goes to my photobucket and there are many pics there.
Ron, your fight with this truck just made me push mine a little farther back in the stash closet.
SteveM
Wow. That weathering is outstanding.
I’d say you definitely won the battle with this one Ron, very nice all around. [tup]
Ron,
Your weathering is top notch. No doubt about it. [bow]
It’s just that all tires looks funny. Like they dont join together very well (parting line).
Does each tire come in 2 parts Ron, or are they just one piece ?
Ben
Take a look at mil-spec non-directional tires. There’s usually no tread grooves in the center of the tire, and any wear at all emphasises this look.
BTW, very nice build. Makes me want to pull out my Tamiya duece.
That is fantastic work. I gotta admit, most of my builds I try to find threads of yours to mimick the weathering. Outstanding.
thanks guys for the comments,
ben the tires were a major problem with this kit they are one piece rubber tires with a nasty seam that is impossible to trim useing conventional methods (knives or sanding) so the only way to smooth this seam out and make even remotely useable was to use a soldering iron and melt the seams off and try make the tires look worn to look at by eye they dont look too bad but as we know the camera dont hide much [:)]
Zok great compliment thanks for that you do awesome work yourself i think we all mimick what we see online or at least incorperate it into our own methods. i have many images of models i have found online that i use for inspiration .
hey RB, i’de like to see her get built post some pics.
Looks like Ron already pointed out that the tires is a pain to work with.
Excellent weathering as always Ron, makes me wanna go visit your factory. [:D]
Ben
Looks awesome! I have to agree you are the weathering king! Just beautiful!
Nice work.
The weathering is just right.
This is another superb build Ron. I like the wood texture and the hood and front part of the truck looks mighty real.
Now, I’ve notice unusual things: The wooden planks behind the cab look too clean probably because you had difficulty to reach that area when weathering this beauty. Also, the underneath portion of the fender looks too clean I think. That portion is constantly beaten up by rocks, sand , mud, water, so I think it should be the worse looking part of the truck.
Again, it’s a wonderfull build with outstanding texture effects and I agree to give you the “weathering king” award.
See ya
Simply amazing, I would really love to see some WIP by you to try and figure ouut how you do the weathering. Especially on the hood and front fenders your rust and worn paint just looks so perfect, how do you do it?!
Great work! The beat up effect really works.
