I wasn’t sure exactly what forum I should post this in, but since they aren’t exactly reference, but they are almost all aircraft, this would be the place.
My girlfriends little brother and I headed up to the EAA AirVenture show in Osh Kosh yesterday. It was huge! We spent most of the time in the warbirds section though. There were so many planes and it was cool to see them up-close and operating. We also toured a C-47, a B-17 and a Chinook. There were some others we could have gone on, but we ran out of time. We also went to the museum afterward, which was totally impressive.
I don’t have a close-up of Lady Luck, but I do have a high resolution image that shows the nose art pretty well. Enough at least where I bet it can be used for a decal. If the image isn’t the one you need, or you want high-res ones of any of the others, let me know.
I have only a few images of ‘Lady Luck’ but none of them are good enough quality or close enough to show the art or even the name too clearly. So now I know what it looks like and what the name is, and have a dang nice image of it to boot!
Could I trouble you for some hi-res versions of those Wildcat images?
Hey Garth, just downloaded the zipped photos and I have to say they are the probably some of the best quality digital photos I have ever seen. Waht equipment do you use and what is the MegaPixel capacity???
Thanks! I have a Canon S40 which is a 4 megapixel. It usually takes even better pictures, but I had it set on medium resolution so I could fit more at the airshow on my memory card. When it is set on the highest, I can print out an 8x10 on my photo printer and nobody can even tell it was taken with a digital camera.
My dad has the newer model (i think it’s the S50 or S55) and his are totally awesome. You can pic them up pretty cheap now. A huge plus is that they have a metal body and are durable as hell. I highly recommend them.
Wow Garth…medium resolution…I’d certainly love to see something done with the hirez…must be simply amazing…I think I might look into getting one of those handy little cameras…
I remember that, at that point Eileen’s brother was getting hungry and made me take him to the concession stand. I was taking pictures along the way and ended up not getting a good one. Next time, remind me to pack a few granola bars [(-D]
Something about the Mustangs, when we were standing around looking @ the P-40, this old guy told everyone to get out of the way so he could take a picture. (I was glad because I wanted one too). He said that he flew them in WWII. Then he said that he actually only flew them in training and turned around and said “That’s what I flew in Europe” and pointed to the P-51s. He was so cool. We talked for a while… He was really nice and shared a bunch about his experiences.
Great pictures Garth. I was there Saturday and Sunday. This year was my 31st year going to Oshkosh. I was 6 the first time I went. There is no more beautiful site or sound in the world than the Warbirds. I happened to catch part of the warbird review on the F-86, the guest speaker was Bob Hoover. Half way thru the talk, who shows up but Chuck Yeager! It was incredible listen to these two legends reminis about their past. Only at Oshkosh can you rub elbows with some of the greatest legends in avaition. I remember when Pappy Boyington was there signing his book. The line was so long I thought “oh I’ll get it next year”. Pappy passed away later that year.
