Has anyone built one of these? There cheap and such, but I didn’t know if they were just real simple stuff or full-fledged models.
Detailed model with road wheels, vinyl tracks, etc. Old kit that is really 1/76 at best, closer to 00 scale.
You mean 1/72 and HO scales, right?
If you say its 1/76, than could I use it in a diorama with a Revell 1/72 Tiger?
I wouldn’t. At close proxiimities the difference in size would be noticable.
No, I mean 1/76 and 00 scale. Originally, Airfix kits were sold as 00 scale kits. Then later they were released as 1/76 scale when Matchbox, Fujimi and Nitto all had a line of 1/76 scale kits.
Today, if you buy the exact same kit that was sold almost 40 years ago as 00 scale and 30 years ago as 1/76 scale, the box states 1/72 scale. Airfix changed the scale to make modelers think that they are buying a kit compatible with the newer 1/72 scale kits. This started about 15 years ago when Esci became a leader in 1/72 scale kits and now that Revell has taken the lead in that scale.
I believe that HO scales out to about 1/87. 00 scales out to 1/76. That is why I stated, “…really 1/76 at best, [which] is closer to 00 scale.”
I built this kit long ago and remember the detail as minimal. I would look for the new Revell kit of the T-34/85 which usually sells around $10.
aw man, than the one on the way will be useless.
The Revell King Tiger will dwarf the Airfix T-34. The KT is already a larger tank than the T-34. Putting them next to one another would make the difference seem greater than it really is.
This way would actually be better (smaller tank in a smaller scale) than having a smaller tank in a larger scale. If that happened, you’d have a small tank next to a larger tank but they would both be about the same physical size. That would look more wrong.
But it is your kit, build it and have fun.
i like the italiery 1:72 t-34 model. i’ve got 3 of them already (one unbuilt)
How much for the Iterali(sp?) kit? So does that make the Airfix figs in 1/72 actually 1/76? What has this world come to!
I dislike Airfix 1/72 armour. Detail is poor, plastic is poor, tracks are poor, scale is innacurate. Their one advantage is the price. But when you are only talking about a $10 to $20 kit it is best to pay the extra for a better kit. I think I paid about $13 for the Italeri kit.
I have a few 1/72 T34. None of them are built. They are Italeri and Eastern Express. They are far superior to Airfix. I can’t comment on the Revell G kits.
well, that just made my heart sink.
Italeri’s is a T-34/76 and it is an old Esci kit. Well regarded in the braille scale world. Revell’s is a T-34/85 and would be a more appropriate kit to put against a King Tiger. It is a very good T-34 kit.
Dragon has a T-34/76 coming out and UM does a few as well.
Don’t let it dishearten you. If you have the Airfix kit on hand, build and enjoy.
hmmnn. return Airfix kit, get money back, get revell kit. BINGO!

funny. I can find the Revell T-34, well at least not on Squadron.
The Italeri kit looks perty good though, and at the same price as the Revel
Use caution when purchasing the Revell T-34. The T-34/85 is a fairly recent kit (#03130). Revell has recently reboxed old Matchbox kits. They are clearly labeled 1/76, but an uninformed consumer may overlook that and think they are buying a new kit. The ex-Matchbox T-34/76 kit is number 03121.
