Yet another exiting announcement from Airfix at the IPMS UK Scale Modelworld Show at Telford. The 1/24th scale Grumman Hellcat test shots were there for all to see, and it looked very impressive shown with wings set and folded. Maybe a Zero to follow in a couple of years to complement it?
Airfix website has pictures of the Hellcat prototype test shots to view.
Looks to still be a warbird in the company pics. Shows gun bays, guns and belts. For the apparent detail in the pit and engine, the price is not out of line for a 1/24 offering. If the fit is the same as their new tool 1/48 P-40 it will be a great addition.
Look at the pricing on the 1/32’s that have come out recently.
Along with the Zeke, maybe a Wildcat in the future, as it saw British service too, so it would have interest over there.
Guys! I am aware the Hellcat is a warbird. Simply placed the info by mistake in this section. Realised within minutes of doing so and reiterated it in the correct section as you will be able to check. Sorry guys, human error.
From the interactions I’ve had with Don in the past, his posts and comments on this board, I didn’t think he was going in that direction, and still don’t.
However I really thank you for pointing it out to me.
Look, I get it. A mistake was made. No biggie. While Don’s intentions is good but lately it’s gotten a bit too much obsessing of policing threads as of late here. Cut the new guys a break. We all make mistakes. Nobody’s perfect.
160 IS Dollars roughly equates to the recommended UK price of £120. The Airfix newly tooled kits and retooled kits represent an amazing step forward in quality and value. What does the Tamiya 1/32 scale Corsair cost compared to this 1/24 scale kit? I would guess not a lot.
True. It would interesting how much Lucky Model will charge. I’ve bought kits from Lucky Model a couple times and found them to be cheaper than most online stores. Worth the wait to see what they offer.
This is exciting news! It makes me wonder if Airfix has decided to branch into more USN subjects in their 1/24 scale line. And that they’re adding to the series at all, is exciting.
