I usually build helicopters but when AIRFIX recently issued this 1/35 SARACEN, I thought it would be an interesting experience to give it a try.
The kit engineering is great and it is a straightforward build for any modeler with a little experience. The only enhancement I made was to open the rear sliding hatch and scratchbuild the circular mount (the Bren gun is provided in the box). Painting was achieved with Tamiya spray-cans.
The Royal Ulster Constabulary police station is made of foamboard and scribing the bricks took me some time… To underline the British atmosphere, I added a resin telephone booth produced by MINI ART and a pole with a Union Jack (decals on soft rhodoïd).
Depicting a scene in 1973 Ulster meant the armored personnel carrier belonged to the Royal Tank Regiment, thus
the three figurines had to be brush painted in a light black for which I used Valejo’s German Panzer Grey primer.
I spent a total of 120 hours on this diorama, of which 80 were devoted to the vehicle.
