Airfix 1/48 Hawker Fury

This is one of those ancient re issue that Airfif loves to but into a new box trying to fool buyers its new.

Loads of flash, very heavy raised detail on the front fuselage and rib detail. I sanded it back and rescribed it, looks allot nicer.

The top cowls on my kit was way to shallow so I had to build it up with sprue to sit flush with the rest.

The paint I wanted to refelec the feaded weathered look of the SAAF planes in east Africa.

Initially I panned to do a dot filter to give some feel to the paint but I am actualy happy with this look as it is.

Looks good

I have the same kit in my stash so I’ll pay attention to your project here for corrections needed. I really like your paint work on it so far. What paints are you using for the Dark Earth/Dark Green?

Stick I also had to reshaoe the rear part of the prop near the hub as it was to sharp angular to my eye, I just rounded it a little.

I used humbrol 65 with a little white on the bottom, top is HU 29 with 15% white and the HU30 green called out in the plans looks wrong to me so I used HU 163 rather.

Theuns

Yeah, Humbrol 30 is way too bright for my eye as RAF Dark Green. 163 is wise choice. Is Humbrol 23 too light for the undersides?

I compare the blue on the underside of a Hawker Hartbeest here in the meseaum and it is quite clost to a slightly lighter 65 , 23 might be a tad to light, maybe its just me

Theuns

Ah yes. A more vivid shade of sky blue than 23. Thanks for that suggestion and reference Theuns!

My HU 163 may be just a tad to dark but still allot closer than the HU 30 sugested.

I have been gloss coating with future and maube another 2 coats should do it then I can decal, I hope these airfix decals work well.

Caling this one done. Not the most refined kit but OK to bractice bi-planes on.

I assded the windshield after pix were taken.
