Airfix 1_32 Ford Fiesta

I am in the process of finishing this model that came in a box along with the Mini Countryman WRC. I brought the kit to practice my weathering techniques before doing more expensive kits. I found the kit to be fairly good however several parts did break when taking them of the spruce so cutting rather than using the snipers is the way to go. I found that the windows would not fit properly and as when I tried to place the body on the chassis it would not fit properly as the roll cage was hard up against the windows.
I am not doing the decals as I have already done the weathering (1st time I have ever tried this),
So all in all a reasonable kit but it is higher than a level 2 skill level.
I know I made quiet a few mistakes:

  1. The ‘rust’ coat should have been done with sponge rather than brush to get the rough effect.
  2. The Top coat is way too thick.
  3. The Top coat colour means the mud does not show through as well as it should.
  4. On small models do not use rock salt but just use normal salt as the rock salt makes the rust patches too big.

But it is a start so I can only improve (I hope)

Super Fiesta, it looks like it’s just been round the field near here! I’ve been trying (over 50 years) to get into weathering as I build rallycars in all sizes from 1/43 to 1/24 scales, here’s one of my latest 1/43rds a Scooby…

There’s possibly not enough crud & mud, but I didn’t want to cover the decals completely!

Cool, looks like someone was having a rough day behind the wheel. All that’s missng are the “Student Driver” markings [:D]
