Well I did it, while attempting to strip the plating, totally destroyed the chrome plated parts. My request, does anyone have a kit in their stash their willing to part with? Something that may have been started and might need a good home.

This problem cries out for Alclad (try Polished Aluminum or Chrome). In fact, most people in my area here strip off kit chrome and use alclad to eliminate needing to touch up chrome at sprue points.
