Many people write on the 'net that normal glue doesn’t “grip” this plastic - I’ve found out, that it’s not really true - it’s just that the parts don’t really fit. Once you figure out how to make them fit and stay this way long enough for the glue to set, it’s totally doable, and that challenge made it fun for me.
As for realism - I wasn’t sure if I could pull this off. I resorted to looking at the photos of the real thing a lot - it’s a method I like to recommend for a wide variety of subjects.
I think Airfix still makes a lot of interesting kits - granted there are not as many birds/bugs/dinosaurs as there used to be. Think about how many subjects are not covered in plastic at all - or hardly so. Good thing nowadays 3D printing can get you mostly anything you want.
