Aircraft realated question

Sorry i didnt know where else to put this, but if its in the wrong place please feel free to move it.

I am about to start building the 1/33rd Fly Model 117 “Short Sunderland”

its a paper/card model, but i plan on making it mostly out of thin sheet aluminium & plastic card.

I have been looking at the various etched brass available online for the 1/72nd Airfix kit.

and i have been wondering, if i bought and scanned these into my scanner, is it possible then to enlarge the actual scanned image and print it out as 1/33rd. This is just so i can make my own pieces out of metal/plastic.

how does the scanner know what the size of the object scanned is? and is it going to be an acurate scale when enlarge?

Is the above even possible?

thanks for your help in this matter

Yes it is possible. I do something similar with the camo patterns on the my models. Basicly it goes like this, measure the piece that you want to enlarge, then measure the piece that have for the kit. Divide the smaller measurement into the larger measurement, for example lets say that the smaller goes into the bigger 3.25 times. That tells you that the scanned image would have to be 325% larger. Have the scanner blow up the image 325% and you should have a image pretty darn close to what you need. Doing a quick calculation on my own I believe that you have to blow up the image 225% to get to 1/32 scale. I see that you say the kit is 1/33 scale. You may have to play with the number a little bit to get exact size you need but that should get you close. Just remember to drop the decimal point to get the percentage you need. Hopefully I have made it a little clearer than mud for you. That and I am certain that there is a number of different ways to figure this, this is the one that works best for me. Good Luck and a 1/32 Sunderland would be a impressive model.
