I have one of the Monogram P-38’s sitting on my desk at home, but I don’t have a digital camera. Cursed dark ages! I have loved P-38’s since I was a kid, when two flew over my house so low I could see the pilots as they were going in to land at Lockborne AFB (Now Rickenbacker Int’l and Air National Guard Base) in Cols. OH for an airshow.
When I got back into modeling, it was natural to do a P-38 first.
They used to have a poem about P-38s at the Air Force Museum at Wright-Patt, but I don’t recall it. A little more complementary than Missile068’s.
Here’s my current project Academy F-5E. I removed the glare shield since most P-38 flew without them. Instrument panel is from the spares box. A little more sanding and it will be ready for primer and paint.
Tom it goes together fairly well no serious issues you just need to test fit everything especially around the cockpit and boom no large gaps but alot of sanding to make joints flush.
Here is my Monogram 1\48 which was my first build since a very long absence from the hobby. This was before I had an airbrush and is completely box stock, brushpainted and weathered using pastell chalks and some dry brushing. I did the recon version just because you never see anyone doing these. Not the best P-38 you ever seen, but I’m proud of it for the skill level I had at the time!
