I had an idea when reading another post. How about each of us (or anyone who bothers to reply) post a link to our favourite reference web sites. It doesn’t matter what kind of aircraft it’s about just as long as it is a good source of aircraft photos. Post as many sites as you want.
If we get a half decent list going it could be an invaluable reference source for us aircraft modellers. And it might just help someone find some photos they’ve been looking for.
Heres my contribution:
www.littlefriends.co.uk Great site on the 8th AF fighter groups in WW2 with heaps of wartime photos of P-51’s, P-47’s and so on.
www.kiwiaircraftimages.com A really nice site with lots of dtail shots of some famous warbirds . And not just New Zealand aircraft. Even some historical info. The guy even takes requests for photos of a particular part of an aircraft.
If you think this is a good idea, just chuck in your favourite reference sites. Try to throw in some sites that aren’t so well known.
That’s the best idea I’ve heard all week, Ping. Just recently I’ve started collecting links furiously, now that I discovered that wonderful “Favorites” icon at the top of my screen. See, I am famously computer-dumb. Which leads me to this: can one or more of you guys once again teach me how to copy a link from my Favitories list, or from the address line, and paste it to the FSM site’s Message space I’m writing on this minute? I’ve been told how before, but when I tried, it wouldn’t paste. So when I want to give you guys a link I think is good, I have to write it out, rather than give you a legitimate link to click on.

http://www.airliners.net : This is a site that has more beautiful airplane pictures than any site I’ve ever seen… by far. There are lots of areas to explore. Just the in-flight, airplane-to-airplane section contained 1,629 pictures!
To copy from your adress bar you can just right lick anwhere in the adress bar and select copy from the drop down menu. This copies the text to your clipboard. Then all you have to do is right click where you want the link to go and select paste.
If you can’t get that to work, just write the link down on a piece of paper and then type it into the message you want to post.
It’s a great idea ! That’s why FSM set up the Reference Material Forum. Posts on the Aircraft Forum will get buried to the back pages very quickly. Would suggest you post your links in the Reference Forum where they will be more readily available to members for research.

Also, could you please look at my post at the end of the SEA Comouflage scheme and see if you have the answers to any of those Aussie-oriented questions? It’s a subject that I believe should have its own thread, but I wasn’t thinking about that when I posted it.

Well, it copied, but why is it not in another color or underlined? Why can’t we click on it and get the site? I’ve got Windows XP, if that means anything.
BTW, if you haven’t perused this site, there is nothing left to learn after you’ve read all this site, and looked at the photos of virtually every ejection device every conceived or built. It goes back to the original Luftwaffe ejection seats in the D0-335 and, I think, the Uhu.
Oh, yeah. I guess I shouldn’t forget the fact that you don’t ever have to wonder what color was what on any seat ever again. It’s all there. As well as what type of harness and hardware to use when making a harness.
