Aircraft Factory Ready for Decals

Well, after a couple of days, I’ve managed to get a couple more planes painted and ready for decals.

First is my F-15J Eagle. I used a color that was labeled as “Dark Grey F-15” for the darker color:

I’m going to keep it this way and just apply the decals.

Next, I got my Me262A painted with a camo pattern. I also repainted the underside, as I felt that the light blue was too blue.

I’ve already clearcoated both of these with Future in preparation for the decals. However, since I’m still re-organizing my Hobby Room, it will probably be awhile before I can finish these two.

Once I do, I’ll post some more pictures.

Nice looking builds you’ve got ther Duke. Can’t wait to see the finished product.

Looks great so far. I really like the Eagle. Im guessing that the J model is for the JASDF?

Interesting combo ,both aircraft were top of the line in their day.
Nice jobs.

Thanks Darson! It may be awhile before they are finished, since my Hobby Room is a wreck right now. Still, I may get it straightened out sooner than I hoped.

Yes it is. This is the Hasegawa kit of the Japanese Eagle. I am not looking forward to putting on the seemingly thousands of decals!

Thanks obiwan! They are part of five wingy projects I’m working on, along with two ships.

Once I get the Hobby Room back into shape, I’ll get started again on my work. Thanks again for looking in.

Good work Duke. Do you brush paint all of your models?

Regards, Rick

Very nice work! I like the schemes you chose; very interesting, especially the F-15. I look forward to seeing the finished products. Thanks for sharing.

Hey Duke… Love the progress on the JASDF F-15… I will say that you shouldn’t use the reference from the instruction sheet… You need to have a look at some reference pics, and go with what feels right… I went with light grey and medium gray flat colors… then I gave it a light sand with fine paper… I love what you have done, but the dark grey is way too dark and blue for that bird… Just an observation, not complaint…

Thanks for the comments guys! I appreciate it.

Rick, yes, I do brush paint all my models. It makes things easier in my current situation.

Thanks Mark! Cool name by the way![;)][8D]

You’re right Chris; unfortunately I am short of paints and money to buy them. Still looking for a job. Until then, She Who Must Be Obeyed has put a purchasing freeze on any new models and supplies. Right now, that grey is about the best color I can use for now so I am just going to have to live with an inaccurate model. Anyway, once I get a job, I’ll be free to buy another Eagle, and the paints to do it right! Thanks again for your comments, Chris and for helping me keep it real!

good luck finding a job duke! Nice looking jobs on both of them.

Sorry mate, I didnt realise your current situation. So please forgive me, if my post sounded negative… Good luck with the work…

Hiya Duke,
Like the F-15… BTW, did you mention what kits these are?? Thank you for sharing…!!!
Flaps up, Mike

Well butz, if you are refering to the F-15J in 1/72 from Hasegawa?.. Then from what I know, there are 2 kinds of kits… There is the smaller boxed c7… That is what I have… It is a basic F-15J with basic tanks and weapons… In Japan I payed Yen950 $9… But then there is a newer kit from Hasegawa in a bigger box that is alot more detailed with a larger weapons cache for Yen1400 $13.00…

Thanks Tankmaster! I’m doing my best, but it’s pretty tight here. Meanwhile, I’m getting alot of ‘spring cleaning’ done around here, as well as a few kits built. Maybe I’ll break the magic number of 1000 kits built this year!

Not a problem Chris! I guess I could’ve mixed some of the white into the grey too, if I wasn’t too lazy, or in need of the white for something else. (I have a couple of hospital ships in the wings, and also need to finish my Titanic for my brother) I do appreciate you helping me to maintainaccuracy. I take your earlier comments in the spirit of helpfulness that they were intended. I saw no negativity in them at all. Besides, I haven’t been very open about my situation before this, so you couldn’t have known.

Hey Mike!

Thanks! These kits are:

F-15J Eagle: 1/72 scale Hasegawa kit.
Me262A: 1/72 scale Revell. This one by the look of the box, was an original issue. It was given to me by a friend of mine who builds larger scale aircraft and wasn’t going to build it. Now if I can only find the missing horizontal stabilizer, I would be able to complete this kit!

Mine is the $13.00 kit in the larger box. However, it only has the drop tanks in it; no weapons. In the instruction sheet, they refer you to a “Weapons Set” kit in order to outfit the model with armament. Fortunately, I have one of those from waaaaaay back!

Nice and clean looking builds you have there Duke, I’m looking forward to your finish pics with the decals you picked out,
Bill…

Like the 262 camo, Great job! Lots of skill with the airbrush. Fitz.

No weapons Duke?.. Wow , thanks for the heads up… I was going to get that kit today to do in the one of the colourfull aggressor designs that the JASDF have on the F-15J…

I guess I can understand the no weapons though… To keep to reality, then I guess the JASDF is is only alowed to fight for defencive reasons, and with all of the reference pics I have, there arent too many that actually carry weapons… Thats why I havnt put any weapons on any of my fighters!

Thanks Bill! I’ll try to get done soon so I can move on.

Thanks Fitz! I appreciate that. Still, I have to confess, I hand painted the camo on that 262, I didn’t airbrush it. I’m glad you like it.

I’m glad I was able to give you that info before you got the kit. Still, it is a great little kit to build, and I do have the weapons set that will fill this baby out. I had kind of figured that the weapons were left out of it because what you said about them being a defense force, still, I’m going to mount weapons on this one. I’d really love to see one of these done in the aggressor scheme you describe; it’s gonna look great!

Great Job, Duke! I picked up a kit over here that might be the same one. No 00644 - “Air Combat Meet 2003” Found it for 1200 yen - not bad! It’s got a nice decal sheet, too! I had managed to get ahold of Hasegawa’s 1/72 JASDF Aircraft Weapons 1 set a while back so I’ll be able to “hook it up” with real Japanese weapons! - Calvin

Thanks for the info Duke… I will stick with the cheaper kit that I have, if the one you got doesnt come with extra parts… So you have just saved me a few Yen!.. I vote you also do an Aggressor F-15-J with me!.. Money permitting of course!
