2 weeks progress. Build before the new tool come out. The old hasegawa Kaga is rarer and is not as often built as the Akagi.
Main focus on deck, island and bow section. Some small detail-up such as maintenance platform etc that were omitted from the kit.
Removed all raised lines on the flightdeck and re-scribed wood planks + plates, shows simple work can render decent decks.
I love your Kaga and want to breed it with my Zuiho…

Then you’d get something like a Junyo or Shokaku. [:D]

I really really need to get myself a moisture trap…Cannot believe how I survived without one for so long. Painting again interrupted by splatter…didn’t help that I’m using stencils for the deck markings which means paint overruns…argh…
Anyhow…what it looks like now… nothing’s glued yet. Deck yet to have a final coat of red for the stern landing markings, maybe I’ll use masks instead of the PE stencil…

Great results! I love the Hasegawa waterline kits, especially to see what you can do with them. Who needs the latest $200 Chinese kit, to get a nice model?

I think it’s more the form of Kaga rather than what I did to make it look a bit refreshing.
Here’s a pic of the current progress: I’ve done 90% of the body work and what’s left are small fittings/details and rigging.
Will start making the air group soon. This is going to be a pearl harbour version rather than Midway.
Ship is rigged and 99% of fittings done. Just need to paint secondary gun blast bags, add flag poles and some doodads + weathering.
I’m meant to add aircraft nets however I found out it is too late as rigging interferes with the assembly and I dare not go within 20 cm of the rigging (I already touched it once and it took a lot to correct, next time will likely result in a complete replacement of masts and rigging…not looking forward to that.)
Ship modeling is all about planning the sub assemblies and soon enough you’ll end up with a model that you simply cannot hold in your hand due to the stuff sticking out of it [+o(]
I want my Zuiho to marry your Kaga…
You are doing a beautiful job on her. When I finish doing the Hood, I will get back into doing the 700 Akagi with the Lion Roar Set…Cheers Mark
What are the differences in the two? I know the Rising Sun painted forward on the flight deck, but what else?

Reminds me of the past when my friend and I built Japanese carriers out of legos and took turns bombing them with lego bombs. It was a lot of fun. He had a gazzilion Legos and we made huge carriers,
You beat me to it. I agree, I don’t think there were any physical modifications made to Kaga after the Pearl Harbor attack, though I don’t know if there were any changes to her paint scheme. I’m curious to know more details.
