Aircraft 1/48 scale spray booth

I know it is not the perfect place for such post but … it is most viewed place [:)]

I need your help with a spary booth purchase.

The model I am looking for is

and if any of you gentle men can give me your input , share your experience , I really appreciate it.

WHy am i getting a new spray booth? Simply read an article on what paint solvants can do to the electric connectors and motor assembly and decided to protect a bit more my work area against potential explosion.

Thanks and sorry for a bit off topic subject. My tow Thunderbolts and one Spitfire wait in line for a final coat of enamel paints … and it is a reason I placed it here [:)]

Greg, I have that spraybooth and highly recommend it. It does a very good job of venting paint fumes. The only time I might have even a slight issue with fumes is when I have the compressor’s PSI cranked way up and the airbrush fully open, which I rarely do (only when I’m trying to clean out some really stubborn residue in the airbrush). Due to the nature of the filters, it apparently doesn’t need to be vented outside but I do so with mine anyway. Yes, the replacement filters aren’t necessarily cheap, but in the four or so years I’ve owned mine I’ve gone through perhaps 5-6 pre-filters (the cheapest one) and maybe one secondary filter. When you consider the cost of replacement lungs, well…

It’s more than big enough to do 48th scale fighters. My 48th scale B-25 that I’ve been working on for almost a year will also fit, although something much larger will be pushing it. It’s also quite quiet, similar to a range fan on low (after all, it’s basically the same set-up). You’ll have to figure how to light the thing. I have a swing-lamp with a 100 watt bulb over mine, although a flourescent light mounted on the inside would be helpful (I’ve been too lazy to do this yet).

Here’s where I purchased mine: www.dixieart.com. They offer free shipping in the US.

By the way, I still wear a respirator even with the spraybooth. I actually wear an optivisor when I do a lot of my airbrushing, so I have my nose right up to model while painting.

HTH, and if you have any more questions fire away!

Mark

Thank you Mark ! I ordered from the site you recommended

After re-reading many related posts in the last hour…I can only conclude that many, many people here are venting their booths into the house (living spaces). Otherwise, why all the concern about soooooo many filters? I must’ve missed something.

I’m not pooh-poohing the venting…if outside venting is not an option, then by Gosh…filter the heck out of it!

Hey Greg,

Ratz… I guess I am a little too late than… I built one a few years ago out of thin lumber and used a Hood Ranger for a stove unit(bought brand new).

They way I designed it, it is filtered through the window by the way of a plastic flexable hose, the kind you use on the drier.

When constructed, it was under $150 when completed. At the moment it is in storage until the Dungeon gets fixed up a bit more.

Here are some pix… Please let use know how you like your new purchase…!!

Flaps up,

Mike
