Airbrushing M4A3 Sherman Track?

I’m planning to build the 1/35 Tamiya M4A3 and I’m looking for suggestions on the best way to mask and airbrush the track. The track is the pattern seen in the photo below: steel overall but with rubber “shoes” that will be a different color than the guide teeth and the pins and bolts visible along the edges.

Should I spray the whole track black metallic, rust it with Rustall and dry-brush it, and then mask off the metal components and spray the rubber shoes a rubbery matt color, or the other way around?

I would spray the entire track black, then hand-paint the metal sections metallic, then a little rust on the metallic.

I would spray the tracks overall panzer gray then hand paint the end connectors and guide teeth dark brown. After that I’d dry brush the track shoes (the rubber part) with dark ghost gray and the metal parts with steel. Once the tracks are installed then weather them right along with the rest of the vehicle. They should turn out looking pretty good.[2cnts]
