Airbrushing decanted tamiya ts-14 gloss black

I had tried earlier to use Swannys method of decanting Krylon gloss black and airbrushing. It didnt work too well for me and every time I tried I got a rough non glossy surface.

I needed to spray some black for the cowl on my Zero Im building here at school. I didnt have any regular enamel MM black paint with me but did have the tamiya ts14 spray can. I didnt want to spray it directly as I wanted more control and a lighter coat. So I figured why not give it another try. If it came out rough, no big deal as its getting a flat coat after decals anyway. So I decanted it using the straw method like Swanny suggested and after spraying the decanted ts 14 I got a very glossy surface with the control I wanted from my el cheapo airbrush!

Im really pleased with this as I wanted an easy method to get a reliable gloss black surface for Alclad application. I dont know why the Krylon would always go flat on me but the Tamiya is doing excellent, and Alclad states that I can use the ts14 for my basecoat… so Im happy!! Its more readily available than the alclad basecoat and gives the glossy coat Im wanting so this helps a lot!

Maybe you needed to thin the krylon before spraying it. I’ve never used the stuff, but give it a go and it might work. I don’t mind using the Tamiya paints atraight from the can, I find that they spray on quite smoothly. Next time, try to heat the can slightly in warm water before spraying and apray in very light mist coats, you’ll find that you get good control over the depth of colour. They go on alot thinner too when you do this.
