I am back as a modeler after an absence of more than 40 years. I have used brushes and rattlecans and are now thinking of going to an airbrush. I primarily model 1/48 scale aircraft. Can someone give me a recommendation for a good beginner’s airbrush. Also, I would like advice on a good source of info on airbrush techniques and maintenance. Thanks
I’d recommend a Badger 150. I’ve been using one for a long time. If fact, it was my first airbrush. They are very beginner friendly and produce great results for the experienced modeler, as well, so you can continue to grow into it.

Coach, I’d recommend a Paasche Model H. They’ve been around since dirt was new, and it’s the only airbrush I’ve ever used. Forty-something models later, it’s still my AB. They are very simple, tough and with practice and a bit o’ skill, it’ll do anything you’ll probably need. I know it’s not very “trendy” but it’s all I know, lol. Note to Gary: Your Model H is a little older than my Model H BUT not as old as my (similar) Binks Wren model B which I’ve had since 1963. And, I think the Paasche Model H is a classic that has withstood the test of time - hasn’t changed much since dirt was new but still works as well since dirt has aged .[:P]
I use the Badger 200 series. I like it so much I have three of them. There are a number of books available to help you on using an airbrush. I suggest building an inexpensive aircraft or car kit and use it to practice on before using it on any other model.
While I have a Badger 150, and could recommend it, I think you should ask this (or at least look at current threads) in the “painting and airbrushing” forum. There is a LOT of discussion of just this question, and even looking at current and older threads could gain you a lot.
I have two Badger Kromes now. I love them!
