Airbrush cleaning?

What does everybody use to clean out your airbrushes? I’ve been using Q tips but they seem to leave small peices of fluff in my tip that later gets blown onto my model!![:(!] Is their any thing out there that can clean my airbrush without leaving anything behind, some ideas would be appreciated[:)].

I use pipe cleaners. They will occasionally leave some fuzz behind as well, but since I blow my airbrush out with compressor air as I reassemble it nothing gets left in the brush. You can also use Micro Brushes or “Official” airbrush cleaning brushes.

Micro brushs work pretty good also… also before I use my airbrush again I always blow some thinner through it at the start to remove any particles that might have been left.

Get some small pine tree shaped interdental brushes (Butler or GUM brand) at your local Walgreens in the dental care section. There are various sizes and shapes that work well for airbrush cleaning. I dip them in an appropriate solvent and clean away. No residue as left by cotton swabs.

I use Q-Tips as well, but blow my needle and tip out with after I’m done cleaning to avoid the fuzz-effect. Never had a problem (Paasche H airbrush).

just wanted to add something, I use pipecleaners too… but there are two kinds of cleaners, the ones with the soft cotton threads on them, and then there are some with ‘extra stiff’ almost like brass wire bristles mixed in every so often. Make sure ya get the first. The ones with the extra stiff bristles would probably scratch up the metal in your brush.

You can get them at most drustores and smoking acessories shops… art supply places usually have them too…
