AIM-7 Sparrow Missile Questions?

Hey Guys,

I am planning on adding AIM-7’s to wing pylons on my Bug and I need some information before I start working on them.

  1. How are AIM-7’s mounted on the wing pylons of the F-18?

  2. Does it require a special launch rail to be mounted on?

  3. What type of launch rail?

Any infomation on this will be very welcome!

I know on my Tomcat I’m building now, has it on a dual pylon with the Aim 9. Or on the belly with no pylon. The bug should be about the same i’m thinking

The F-14 uses an LAU-92 launch rail while the F/A-18 uses the LAU-115/A or the LAU-115A/A. There is a substantial difference in the two.

There are pictures, starting on page 21, of the various launch rails used. There are also some good diagrams of the different missles used at this site.

Mist, I am putting AIM-120’s on the fusalage launch rails and AIM-7’s on inbord wing pylons but pictures I seen the AIM-7’s need a launch rail when mounted to a wing stores pylon. Chopper sent me a lnk to a good .pdf file and I think I can modify the launch rails from my F-16 for this with just a little filing and sanding.

Here is the break down of what weapons I am adding:

AIM9 AGM88 AIM7 AIM120 Fuel AIM120 AIM7 AGM88 AIM9

Just to give you an idea of of the fangs this Bug will have. [:D]

Chopper, Thanks for the .pdf file. My F-16’s LAU 15’s will work perfectly for this, just need a little reworking. [tup]
