Aichi M6A1, Seiran (FSM, Sep 05)

After seeing the article on this a/c, the ‘Big Light’ wnet off in my head![8-]
A supplement to the October/Novemeber isssue of Air & Space/Smithsonian, 2001 issue has ‘fold-out’ featuring not only detailed artwork but depiction of the I-400 Class Sen-Toku Submarine.[:D]
According to the info provided there is a Seiran restoration tam at the Paul E. Garber facility (whereever that is).
Along with the great article in FSM on the build, those interested in building this a/c need to start looking for the A/S magazine.[8D]

The Paul Garber Storage and Restoration Facility is part of the National Air and Space Museum and is located in Suitland, Maryland, a few miles southeast of Washington,DC.
They used to have guided tours of the facility each day, but it is closed to the public now. I was there in 1999 and 2000 and they had the Seiran under restoration then. It is now on display at the Udvar Hazy museum at the Dulles International Airport, Fairfax Virginia.

The Seiran is on display in the Smithsonian’s Udvar-Hazy Center at Dulles Airport in Virginia. I just saw it three weeks ago there and it is magnificent (along with everything else in the museum). Well worth the time to visit and admire their world-class restorations of everything in the building. The Garber Facility was in Suitland, Maryland and was the home of the Smithsonian’s restoration shops until the Udvar-Hazy Center was built. The museum is definitely something to put on your list of places to visit.

I’ll put it on my list!
Just thought I’d share some info. Detail oriented modelers never have enough refs and between the ‘Fly Guys’ and the ‘Boat Boyz’ this dio could rivial the ‘Das Boat’ one.[:D]

didfaI is correct. There’s a great fold-out in an issue of Air & Space from a few years back on the Seiran.

Click on the web page link in my profile to see some photos that I and my family took from the Udvar-Hazy Center (or just click here:

EDIT: Here’s the photo:

We toured the Garber Restoration facility in Dec. 2002. And the U-H center in Dec. 2003 and 2004.

Regards,

I have that issue, be great if someone decided to build a diorama with the Seiran being loaded to or deployed from a partial deck of a Japanese sub.
