AHHHH!!!!!! HELP!!!!!!!! COCKPIT PROBLEMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So I am trying to install the aires resin cockpit on my MiG-29 from Academy. I saw away the sections they tell me to, but the cockpit won’t fit. It won’t go all the way up!!! I think it’s too wide or something!!! What do I do!!! Please help. Thanks.

All I can suggest is tostart sanding away until it fits. You only want to sand alittle a time and dry fit until it mates with the interior of the kit. I had that problem with the interior of my 109E3 using a Verlinden set.

To expand a little on what was said above: sand a bit and then do a trial fit. You may find that in order to get parts to fit that the cockpit walls end up paper thin. I have seen this before. Just take it slow and easy so you don’t have a sand-through and you’ll be fine.

I found a similar fit problem with the Neomega cockpit for my SU-34. The fit problems were solved by judicious sanding of both the resin cockpit and the surrounding styrene fuselage. I found this a good compromise which allowed for a clean fit and a stronger assembly altogether as I wasn’t relying on the strength of the resin or the styrene but on a little bit of both.

You will likely need to sand both the resin & the plastic of the fuselage until they fit. This is a very typical problem with a lot of AM resin & most Classic Airframes kits.

As Rick said, this is one of those things with resin sets. Expect them not to fit! I use a dremel tool to do the initial sanding on the cockpit sidewalls of the kit and then slow down with hand sanding for control. Or use a dremel bit with an adaptor to a cordless screwdriver for slower speeds. Sanding the resin will take great care as it can crack if you get it too thin.

Wet or dry sand paper for me (320 grit - preferably wet), and do what has been stated above.

OK. Thanks guys. This is my first aftermarket, so I’m REALLY nervous. The cockpit already looks like it’s going to need some filling around some pretty major gaps. sigh…[sigh]
