[censored][oops] Ok, so I superglue my new A-10 kit together, and its going fablously! However, I didn’t notice that the glue was leaking out of the joint, because I put it inside the fuselage to help back up the putty for the seem, and it leaked out after I sprayed the accelerator on it! So now I have a nice looking plane with CA all over it! Anybody know of a good way to get this stuff off? I tried acetone nail polish, but it is kinda old and didn’t work. Do I need a fresh bottle, or is there something I can do. Sanding in not an option, to much fine detail I won’t be able to get back [#wstupid][banghead]
That sucks. You could try CA debonder, I have zero experience with it. Cured CA is extremely hard and almost impervious to sandpaper and elbow grease.
I guess the good news is you weren’t holding the fuselage while the CA leaked out. It would be pretty hard to type with an airplane stuck to your hand…
I think I am just going to run by my LHS in a couple days and pick up a new kit. I think this would be easier than trying to sand or file the CA down, and if the debonder is going to melt the plastic, I might as well get a new, cause Lord knows with my luck I will have an olive green glob of plastic stuck to my hands if I use it. Thanks for the advice guys.
Denatured alcohol and lots of elbow grease will get it off with little or no damage to the plastic. Simply soak a cotton ball with the alcohol and scrub away.
The alcohol didn’t seem to work? The glue pretty much piled up, its not in a thin layer, maybe that is why? I decided to just give it and a couple other kits I have that aren’t turning out so well to my nephew. he won’t mind and I know he will like them hanging on his ceiling. He will especially like the warthog, with the sharkmouth and all. Its kinda nice working on one and not getting overly critical on the small stuff, its getting relaxing again[:D]
You need to soak for at least two days in the D A to get it off. It will pleal a bit the crack off ooff in lumps .
Its seal will fail but it will still fit very close, hence breaking in lumps,
Be patiant and wait to save it,
DO NOT USE ACITONE OR Nail VARNISH REMOVER…it melts platic faster thaan glue !!
na, my nephew will like it hanging on his ceiling, glue boogers or not. Besides, if i was going to do away with it, it would have to be big [}:)] Thanks for all the help guys, I ordered a new kit tonight. I figured I might as well just start over fresh than to keep working on this cursed thing and try to turn it into something.
That blows and hard! I have no tips to give you but you have my sympathy. I have to agree with Bgrigg as it would be hard to type anything with a plane glued to your hand.
That would be kinda hard and sucky. I ordered some CA debonder, it should be in soon. I gave the plane to my nephew, who promptly popped the canopy off! I guess it really does jettison, cause that sucker flew[:)] My sister brought it back the next day in about 10 pieces wanting me to fix it. I took all the ordanance off of it, I figure I can use those on something else, and told him to be more careful, cause I wasn’t spending the next 5 years gluing that thing back together! I know, I am such a cruel uncle[:D]
I got some debonder, and on the back it says in big, bold letters “ATTACKS ALL PLASTIC”! so I guess I won’t be using that for that purpose. Oh well, I glue my fingers together a lot to [:D]
Whats cruel and unusual, more so than normal with me, is when I glue HIS fingers together [}:)][:-,] My sister loves me! Don’t worry, I cleaned him up before she took him home!
