For those of you that have built one of these, could you please advise the kit quality levels of the various kits you may have tried. 48th and 35th scale kits are OK, not after super detail, but wonder which kits are better in terms of fit and clear bits clarity. Thanks in advance.
I’ll be watching. I would like to do another as an ancient one I found in a drawer was missing the canopy. Built it anyway. Such a wicked looking craft to this day.
I’ve got the MRC 1/35th AH-1W kit of the prototype Whiskey Cobra that was released over 20 years ago (black paint job with the gold Cobra stripe down each side). So far, I remember test-fitting the kit, and gluing some parts together that didn’t need paint first (stub wings, external weapons, etc), and don’t recall any fit issues from the test-fitting. It’s still sitting in my “To Do” pile, as are a few other kits…
It’s a great kit. Molded all in black, which will make painting some colors a bit difficult unless some light-colored primer is used. I’m not sure why I never built the thing. I remember test-fitting almost all of the parts, being very pleased with how that resulted, glued a few parts together, put it in the box, and it’s been sitting on my shelf ever since. Maybe I’ll get back to it once the kits listed below are complete.
If its the -W you must build I am of no help. However, if you want or are interested in building the -Z Viper then KittyHawk makes a super nice one in 1/48. It’s an exceptional kit.
