AH-6J After-Market Ammo Belt Question

For those of you familiar with the Cobra Comapny ammo belt… I got a couple of pair I recently; can I use a set to replace the original DML ammo belt from the AH-6J kit? Would the new belts be accurate?

Thanks in advance

Yup, the CC belts are the same, standard type of flexible metal belt that the 7.62 ammo belts travel inside. They are correct for an AH-6J.

Cool. I thought as much, but it’s still good to double check. Thanks for your help Gino.

hi what brand is the AH-6

1/35th DML/Dragon AH-6J LIttlebird. Great kit.

Grab 'em while you can…I remember the posts on this forum when the kit was unavailable, and everyone was going through withdrawl! Got mine sitting safely on the shelf now [:P].

I’m in the process of building both an MH-6 and an AH-6. I had many naughty words directed at DML for providing straight ammo belts that needed to be bent to reach the guns. I screwed up all four of the belts. Then I started rummaging through my various boxes of odds and ends and came up with a length of Tamiya M-3 halftrack track. I split the track down the middle and trimmed the edges smooth. Its flexible, serrated and just about the right width (although its a lot thicker than the ammo belt probably should be).

I fitted the guns tonight, and the belts look pretty good. I could have sprung for the Cobra belts, but hey, I’m cheap (although I did order the MELB kit from Cobra for the MH-6, per your suggestion, Grant…thanks mucho again for the help.)

No problem Joe. I picked up the ammo belts seperately from Cobra and they weren’t at all expensive. I’m using the MELB conversion on my AH-6 as well, just not using the running boards. It’s a great set and looks fantastic. With any luck I’ll have pix up of my first Little Bird over on the Attack Helo GB thread by weekend’s end.

Great idea for ammo belts. I have an old halftrack that could donate some ammo belts too. Sounds good.

I looked at Cobra’s website today and didnt see any ammo belts like you mentioned…are they a separate item or part of a set? I saw an ammo belt included with the M-230 gun set for a Blackhawk but I dont think this is what you meant ( it also appeared to be a straight length of polyurethane resin, which would crack faster than the four styrene ammo belts included with the Little Bird kit…in my case, eight short ammo belts.)

They are part of the UH-1N Weapons set. Chris will sell them as separate items though. They, and those in the M230 cannon rig set, are soft rubber, not resin.

UH-1N Weapons set.
