AH-64 Apache Attack Helicopter

I recently acquired the Revell 1/32 AH-64 Apache and have a few quiestions on the kit. Have any of you built this kit and what do you think of it? Are there any areas to watch for potential ptoblems? I have been searching the web for information on this machine to aid in the build but have a problem with the basic exterior and interior color. Even photos taken of the same helicopter seem to vary in color. What would be a color for the model? I use mostly Tamiya paints if at all possible but will change if there is a better choice. Next, I have not been able to find any good interior shots of the crew area as I would like to get as much detail in there as I can. This model is a gift for my Son-in-law who is a LtCol in the Marine Corps stationed in Afganistan at the present. He flew Marine One for a period of four years and is a copter nut so I want the build to be as accurate as possible. Any and all assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Richard

Richard,

The Revell kit is the best large-scale AH-64 kit available. It came out in 1987, so it is a little lacking on the detail end of things, but the basic shape is spot-on. The cockpit detail is very good. Basically the kit is missing the cable-cutters, wire strike bracing, ECM antennae and laser detectors that modern AH-64A’s have. With some scratchbuilding, it makes a great representation. I’m actually working on an article for FSM right now on updating the Revell kit.

Your son-in-law is probably working with AH-64A’s from two different Army National Guard units if he’s in-country right now. Drop me an email and I can send you some photosof Marine/Army cooperation in Afghanistan and answer any further questions you may have.

Jon,

Thanks for the input and I have sent you a couple of e-mails.
