I started working on my ACA 1/35 scale Cobra last night and ran into a problem.I scratchbuilt(with pieces from a UH-60 model) a T700 engine to detail in the engine section area.My problem is the big hole in the rear behind the engine,that’s just before the exhaust module.Does anybody have some pics of this area for me to reference to so I can make some detail on the model.

The 1/35 kit is pretty deficient in the engine bay. As you can see from the pics below, the front and rear of the engine are walled off by sheet metal firewalls. This should be fairly easy to replicate on your model by tracing the empty spaces on the kit and cutting out the wall pattern from sheet styrene. Hope these pics help.

Andy,those pics are EXACTLY!!! what I needed for the engine detail.Thanks alot for the help.A quick question:Do you think it would work if I took the main trans.module from a 1/32 scale Huey and put it on the cobra so I could open up 1 of the 2 access panels on the side of the fuselage to show the module or not?

Well I started on my Cobra yesterday(Actually Friday night) by taking Andy’s pics and began to work on the Engine section.I’ll start an in progress thread for the next post,Let me say that it took 2 tries at filling in the rear exhaust module with styrene.To add insult to injury,I glued(with testors cement thankfully!)the module on backwards.I bet you Cobra guys will have a field day with that.I was able to pull the piece back off and sand the glue off and turn it around the other way.I then started on the bottom engine mount when I just got too tired @3:30 in the morning.I’ll probably cast a resin master for the engine before it gets mounted inside next time I work on it.if anybody wants a copy as long as it turns out alright,let me know and I’ll see what I can do for you.The engine is minus the fuel lines,wiring,and injector nozzle lines but the base for the engine is there.it fits the H-60 models as well.I’ll post a pic of it as soon as I can

These are just the sort of photos I’ve been looking for as well.
I’ve decided to build my Whiskey with both engine bays open. I’ve worked on the forward bulkhead and currently building the transmission and rotor assembly.
Here are some pics.
I decided to replicate the rotor brake pads by using 1/24 after market car accessories. I also decided to build the transmission casing from scratch utilising some of Academy’s UH-1C parts for the rotor mast. I still have a lot of detail to add in this area.
I put the build on hold for a month as I was waiting for some materials to arrive and also have been pursuing my other hobby - building a gaming PC!
Do you have any photos of the hydraulic piping on the front bulkhead and the hydraulic cylinders which sit atop the and in front of the transmission area? I have some of the starboard side but nothing much on the port side or on top.
Hawkwrench - I am really interested to see your progress shots and also if you make up some resin parts of the engine. BTW - how come you didn’t use the engine in the Academy cobra kit (admittedly a bit of a sow’s ear - but a starting point) but decided to use the UH-60 engine parts?
Oh and Intruder-Bass - thanks for help and tips early on. I’ve also picked up some of the Archer rivet decals - as you say, they are a little expensive but excellent!!

The last three pictures Andy posted were from a some walkaround series that I thought was posted on ARC but I don’t see them there now. Pretty sure they cover everything you need. I’ll look and see what else I have and post it here tonight.

Andy - superb, just what I need. Makes me want to open up even more panels!!
I’ve done a little more work, building the transmission platform. I used Archer rivet transfers which are just great.
Next I will start working on the hydraulic system and environmental control unit.
Great progress, Geordie. I will be staying tuned to this one for sure.

Well I’ve finally managed to progress my Cobra build a little further. I’ve been working on the hydraulic systems and the various details above and behind the cockpit. I still have some more work to do on the plumbing. Here’s a couple of pics:

I’m just about to start on the next part of my Whiskey build which is the area immediately behind the transmission/in front of the engine bulkhead.
The photos that have been posted are very useful, but I was wondering if anybody had some additional photos of the area described above - particularly the white coloured piece of equipment between the engine intakes (it has what looks like a driveshaft and two other cylindrical parts connected to it). Does anybody have shots directly facing and/or above this piece of equipment?

Geordie, you are talking about the combining gearbox assembly, or, c-box. It combines the shaft power from both engines into one driveshaft that connects to the transmission. The two cylindrical parts are the #1 and #2 generators. Sorry I can’t help you out with more detailed photos. The series of photos posted above by Supercobra are about the best I have ever seen of this area. As you can imagine, any further detail is quite hard to obtain as there always seems to be something in the way. Follow those sideviews and you should still get a really good representation.
