THE ANSWER IS: The M3 Canal Defence Light. It was a program where M3s and Matilda tanks were modified with spotlights in the turrets for night battles. they were never used for battle, instead used for illuminating nighttime operations and maneuvers.
It’ll be a couple of days before it gets updated as I am gone to take a CPR course.
That cover looks strangely reminiscent of the mask the Elephant Man wore. Hmmm, does that mean maybe it’s a prototype Elefant Tank (Allied verision, of course!)
