Is it just me, or is AFV club’s plastic to brittle?
I wouldn’t describe it as brittle but I do think it feels "strange’. FWIW, I think Dragon will also come out with a Flak 18 or something similar to go with the figure set (#6275) they are supposed to release this later this year.
AFV Club’s plastic does have some issues. Im working on the FH-18 for the Artillery group build. One of my trails split in two when I handeled it, I was being gentle with it too. It may have been weakened in shipping and I didn’t catch it, I’m not sure.
Not to mention Ive been having a time with the flash.
It is indeed a neglected topic, where the only models of this gun were in resin and very expensive… Unfortunately, it’s still sort of neglected…
I should have looked more closely to the images myself. That metal barrel is a bit troubling because it’s the wrong type. The barrel looks like one for a Flak 36, not a Flak 18. Flak 36’s have the pronounced and noticeable “collar” just below the barrel, as the sprue image shows. This collar has several identations around it.
Flak 18’s have much much more taper to them and the “collar” isn’t as prounounced.
Hope the kit contians a plastic one, and hope ti’s it’s the right one.

Yes it seems AFV Club may have slipped in a barrel from another project as a tease.
I’ve just added a new image of the built up kit which has the correct Flak 18 barrel.
