I was wondering where could one go to get some really nice aftermarket Cannon’s & mounts for tall ships, I’m thinking of doing the gun deck of my 1/120th scale USS United States(it only has recesses for the cannons to go in) and I got the ausome site the Big Jake sent me to for more details on the Contitution class frigates, by the way Big Jake THANKS again

Try also Model Expo. They have after market fittings for a lot of the imported kits. I am surprised that the kit came without cannons. Have you tried checking with the manufacturer?

well it came with cannons but, the kits cannon ports are like little cubes in the hull with saparate barrels sticking out the cubes and the kit only has part of the cannon showing( not the whole assembly), what I plan on doing is cutting out the cubes and putting the whole deck in with complete cannons & carriages and with some other details included for the Constitution class Frigates, being a Aircraft modeler this kit has alot possitive possibilities wink-wink, nudge-nudge, know what I mean, its the modeler in me I guess
Well wink wink nudge nudge right back atcha cuda. I assume that you are going to kit-bash the frigate similar to the way aircraft modelers do. Sounds like a really interesting project. We’ll probably win you over from the wingy thing department when you find out how much fun ships are.

One of the problems with building imported kits is that they come in scales such as the 1/120th you mentioned, while the domestic kits (at least the wooden ones) generally stick to 1/192, 1/196, 1/64th, etc. scales hence the somewhat more available the fittings. As I said, Model Expo deals in import fittings so they shouild have something to fit your requirements.

Well the wife got me started in this avenue she wanted to do a tall ship model and I bought 2 so I’d be able to coach her through the process and I kinda got hooked, the only hard thing about tall ships is the FARGIN rigging but even for the person who doesn’t know how to rig will make the kit look really good by doing it, my wifes first attemp was a really good one and she learned all of the modeling tricks all in one build, but back to the kit thanks for all the input and I still love building kits I’ve done just about them all, planes, trains, automobiles, ships, and even armour but the planes & ships are the most fun to do, I prefer the tall ships over the modern classes because there is something more then being screwed through the waves
