Afrika Corps markings....

My Opel is just about finished, and I got from Archer Fine Transfers a set of makrings from the Corps. The Palm/Swstka emblam should be where on the truck? The door? The fender? The stakeside? I’ve never seen any pics of them and this is my own interpretation so…TIA!

The door. On page 27 of Rommel in North Africa it has a photo of an Opel with the Palm tree in the center of the door. I can scan it and post it if you want.

Normaly, on soft skin vehicles, you’d have the DAK palm insignas on the front doors, and often also at the back of the vehicle (on the wooden or metal part of the vehicle). Alternatively, some vehicles seem to have it on the left fender (and I’d guess, at the back of the vehicle as well). In that case, the tactical sign is found either sharing the left fender with the palm insigna or alone on the right fender.

leopold, if you could post that shot for me, that’s be great.

I was thinking a smaller one on the driver’s side front fender, the doors and the passenger side rear.

I forgot to ask…what about aircraft recognition panels?

Nazi flag.

Like Domi said a nazi flag. I believe it was draped over the hood on a soft skin vehicle.

Absolutely…! (forgot to mention that… Thanks, Mark!)

Were they any tiedowns or was it just thrown over the hood?

Here it is:

It is in Ron’s upload file right now, it will probably be moved soon.
They could also be on the front fenders or rear tailgate.

Everything on a moving vehicle must be somehow tied down. ropes must have been the most common thing used…
